Traveling Light Team,
I know it's the MS150 "offseason" for many unless, of course, you are racing in a velodrome on Fridays! However, to keep a little muscle memory intact through these summer months a few of us are making plans to ride in the Tour de Pink 2008 Bike Ride on September 7th. I wanted to extend an invitation to the entire Traveling Light family and find out if anyone would like to join us two weeks from now.
Here are the details:
WHAT: Tour de Pink 2008 Bike Ride (http://www.tourdepink.org) Participants will be raising money for Pink Ribbons Project, in motion against breast cancer to fight breast cancer through awareness and education programs and the support of proper screening for the medically underserved funding and outreach initiatives.
WHEN: Sunday, Sept 7th 2008 --- first riders set out at 7:00am
WHERE: Prairie View A&M University --- 12, 23, 47, 63, 80 or 100 mile bike tour through the beautiful Texas country side to help fight breast cancer. Prairie View A&M is located north-west of Houston on highway 290 before you get to Hempstead.
SIGNUP/FUNDRAISING: $25 registration fee and each rider is asked to raise a minimum of $75 in fundraising. Just like the MS150, once you register as a rider you have the ability to create an e-donation page online to receive donations.
The current plan is to ride the 47-mile course. I realize that this is relatively short notice with regard to the ride and, more importantly, the fund-raising portion. My plan is to likely just donate $75 towards this ride out of my own pocket and use it as an opportunity for some training miles with friends. However, if you have friends and family who have been effected by breast cancer this might be a great opportunity to let them get involved and support you in this effort!
For more information, please visit the Tour de Pink website at
http://www.tourdepink.org
If you are interested in riding, please let me know and I will provide you with the information so that you can register as a member of the Traveling Light team. I know this will be another great opportunity to put in some miles for a great cause!
Thanks,
